Matcha Monday P. 4

Happy New Year S.T.Y.L.E Nation!

2021 was WAY busier than we expected and we are grateful for it. But we owe you the Matcha Monday 411! What better time to pick up on the benefits of matcha than the first week of the new year? In past blogs, we’ve talked about how matcha is rich in antioxidants, supports brain function, and reduces your risk of heart disease.

Today we want to tackle one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions and the magic of matcha…weight loss!

Did you know green tea is known for its ability to enhance exercise? Studies show it can speed up the metabolism, increase energy expenditure, and boost fat burning. We went over how matcha is full of antioxidants in Part 1 but more specifically it’s the super-powerful antioxidant, Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) that really makes the magic happen.  EGCG reduces inflammation and speeds up the metabolic rate of cells. This means that when you’re doing nothing, matcha is actually helping you burn off more calories. Can someone say yes please! EGCG also helps reduce those annoying snack cravings between meals.

Matcha has also been shown to regulate the production of the hormone, Leptin. This is important because this is the hormone your body releases when hungry. But everyone has off days, even your body, and occasionally Leptin will leak into your system at inappropriate times. A cup of matcha can be the perfect thing to keep Leptin at bay.

So combined with moderate exercise, drinking matcha green tea has actually been shown to increase fat burning by 17%! If you’re looking to start the New Year in S.T.Y.L.E. here’s another great reason to start your day with a matcha!

A word of caution…there are plenty of matcha latte recipes that are full of sugar and calories. So be careful as not all matcha is the same and you may be negating some of the benefits when adding too many “extras”. It’s great to treat yourself sometimes but here are some of our healthiest matcha faves!
