Matcha Monday P. 6

LOL

Happy Monday all you matcha lovers! Today we want to talk about our 6th benefit of matcha tea. So far, we have laid out many reasons why we love matcha. A quick recap…it’s loaded with antioxidants, calms nerves & enhances productivity, reduces heart disease, aids in weight loss, helps brain function, protects the liver, and lastly….it can even help prevent cancer!

Matcha is jam-packed with health-promoting compounds, including some that have been linked to cancer prevention and inhibiting the growth of cancer cells in test tube and animal studies. In one study, green tea extract decreased tumor size and slowed the growth of breast cancer cells in rats. Matcha is especially high in epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a type of catechin that has been shown to have powerful anti-cancer properties. One test tube study found that the EGCG in matcha helped kill off prostate, skin, lung, and liver cancer. How amazing is that!?!

According to studies through Mount Sinai, several population-based studies suggest that both green and black teas help protect against cancer. For example, cancer rates tend to be low in countries such as Japan where people regularly consume green tea.

Early clinical studies suggest that the polyphenols in tea, especially green tea, may play an important role in the prevention of cancer. Researchers also believe that polyphenols help kill cancerous cells and stop them from growing. Two of their cancer studies stood out to us:

Breast Cancer

Studies in animals and test tubes suggest that polyphenols in green tea inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells. In one study of 472 women with various stages of breast cancer, researchers found that women who drank the most green tea had the least spread of cancer. It was especially true in premenopausal women in the early stages of breast cancer. They also found that women with early stages of the disease who drank at least 5 cups of tea daily before being diagnosed with cancer were less likely to experience a recurrence after they finished treatment.

In one very large study, researchers found that drinking tea, green or any other type, was not associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer. However, when the researchers broke down the sample by age, they found that women under the age of 50 who consumed 3 or more cups of tea per day were 37% less likely to develop breast cancer compared to women who did not drink tea.

Ovarian Cancer

In a study done with ovarian cancer patients in China, researchers found that women who drank at least one cup of green tea per day lived longer with the disease than those who did not drink green tea. In fact, those who drank the most tea, lived the longest!

We always knew matcha tea was magical, but if it can potentially combat cancer…even better! Just another reason we LOVE matcha so much!

To conclude our series on the benefits of matcha, we want to share our very own tutorial on how to make matcha latte at home! We all have those days we don’t want to leave the house, so it’s important to know how to make them for ourselves. Especially if there’s ever another shut down! We are spotlighting one of our new must have brands “Clevr” and their Matcha SuperLatte powder with superfoods, adaptogens, and probiotics! This one made Oprah’s Favorite’s List for 2021! Click the video to see how to make it!
