Market Week At 19

Market week (through the eyes of a 19 yr old).... Being so young, and going into this career has given me a handful of “firsts”. One of those bigger “firsts” was definitely Market Week. At the start of the week I was anxious, excited, and blown away all at the same time. I come from the small town of Richfield, Utah with the population of about 7,000 people.  So walking into The Las Vegas World Market Center you can bet my jaw was on the floor. The buildings were massive with vendors filling every room in all three buildings. Yes, let me say that again.. Not one, not two, but THREE buildings.

In those buildings were some of the top vendors that designers use. I couldn't believe all of the magnificent furniture, fixtures, and decor that were there. They had every style for interior design that you could even think of from Modern, Farmhouse, Traditional, Coastal, you name it!  You can spend all day in one building and still not get through all of the rooms you wanted to. If you have ever spent a whole day at Disneyland, gone home, laid down, and felt the aching pressure release from your body, then you now know what a day at Market is like. Me and my swollen feet found out very soon why they call it “Market Week” and not “Market Day”.

Being 19 and living in a tiny apartment with three other roommates (like most people have probably experienced) you know starting out on your own is hard. For the most part I thought that I was okay with what I have, but after experiencing a week surrounded by beautiful furniture and successful people, it has only made me want more for myself, as well as, for my future. Not many young people get to experience things like this which has made me feel like I have a head start on success. So recognizing that opened my eyes to grab the opportunity as fast as I can. Which I plan to continue working on.

Overall, Market Week was not anything like I expected. I got much more out of it than I ever thought I would. Such as the freebies (aka the cute bags), delicious food, blisters, lack of sleep, new vendors, and of course pillows upon pillows. Though all of that was great, what really made its mark on me was the knowledge that I left with. It wasn’t anything you could learn from a textbook, or at college. It was life knowledge and experience, which is something that can’t be taught...or bought. I may be young, but I am absorbing all of the information that comes my way and am ready to use it. And that is what Market Week was all about for this 19 yr old.

Till next time….

Yours truly, Sydnie
